Closed Loop and the Circular Economy

'Environmental awareness', 'sustainability', 'ecology', 'circular economy', 'carbon footprint', and 'closed loop recycling' are critical watchwords in commercial and public service organisations’ activity today.

There is an increasing drive and demand to reduce waste, carefully husband the Earth’s resources, and generally reduce human impact on biodiversity and the environment.

Customers, staff and suppliers are rightly sensitive to the environmental credentials of organisations with whom they trade or of which they are stakeholders.

Plastecowood offers commercial and public service organisations an attractive proposition to encourage sustainable and environmentally aware procurement with the following possibilities:

  • Reduced carbon footprint
  • Reduction in waste to landfill
  • Reduction in payment of landfill tax
  • Sustainable procurement
  • Reduced whole life costs
  • Re-using valuable fossil fuel resources (namely plastics)
  • Obtaining long-life, no maintenance products
  • Saving replacement, re-installation and maintenance costs
  • Reducing transport movements and costs
  • Reducing dependence on paints and preservatives with maintenance free products
  • Reducing deforestation by utilising alternative to wood products
  • Reducing concern and red-tape in respect of timber provenance
  • Supporting UK manufacturing
  • Supporting UK recycling
  • Supporting UK employment
  • Reducing imports

Plastecowood offers waste authorities, waste producers, waste managers, licensed waste carriers the opportunity of recycling and reusing a wide variety of mixed or single stream plastics, which in many cases would be destined for burial in landfill. Their waste stream can be reused and re-moulded into Plastecowood’s Smartawood™ product and re-purchased to replace products that they procure everyday which have historically been made from virgin materials, metal, plastic, imported or homegrown timber.

We calculate that for every 1000 kilogrammes (one tonne) of recycled plastic purchased from Plastecowood 700 kilogrammes of carbon is diverted from landfill.

Fencing... bollards... decking... platforms... pallets... platforms... crates and cases.... all made by recycling plastic that would otherwise be destined for landfill

Plastecowood challenges waste producing or managing organisations to take the Smartawood™ challenge. It’s a no brainer!
